How It All Started

Michael, the founder of Terrarium Laboratory (now Greenlab Collective), began the business as a hobby sparked by his love of indoor plants. After moving to Melbourne over fifteen years ago, he found himself missing the lush tropical garden his parents had while he was growing up. Unsure how to recreate that tropical oasis in an urban setting, Michael stumbled upon a terrarium online—and everything just clicked. From that moment, a passion turned into a journey, and Terrarium Laboratory was born.

Starting out at art and craft markets, Terrarium Laboratory soon grew to include pop-up events at major shopping centres. Since 2015, we’ve proudly called the South Melbourne Market home, where we’ve built a reputation for crafting stunning, high-quality terrariums.

Each terrarium is lovingly made in Melbourne, with most designed and built by Michael himself. Every piece is crafted with care and meticulous attention to detail, ensuring a unique, high-quality result every time.

Exciting News – Our New Store

We’re thrilled to announce the opening of our new store, Greenlab Collective, on 16 January 2025. Located at 307 Glen Huntly Rd, Elsternwick, this new space will feature an even wider range of terrariums, bonsai, indoor plants, and homewares.

While we’ll continue trading at South Melbourne Market, our Elsternwick store will let us share even more of our passion for greenery in a beautifully curated space.
